IN DEFENSE OF CHARLIE BLACK. I have known Charlie Black since 1970. As Chairman of the South Dakota Young Republicans I first met Charlie at a Young Republican Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. I worked with Charlie Black in two Reagan campaigns (1976-1980. When my family and I moved back to Washington, D.C. in 1981, Charlie graciously offered us space in his home till we settled. We have stayed in touch sporatically since I left Washington in 1983. I know him to be a brilliant, committed conservative. I have never known him to take unfair advantage. Is he a candidate for the next Pope, no, is he a gentlemen with high standards--in my experience--yes. Jim
