Brent Bozell III : Celebrities Mold The Young - Townhall.com

Brent Bozell thinks that celebrities can help get out the vote. What a novel concept. One word created Obama--OPRAH. Nixon had the best celebrity surrogate group that had ever happened in 1972. I swear Buddy Ebsen shook the hand of nearly every South Dakotan. (I scheduled him---I was the executive director of the SD Reelect campaign) Reagan had an incredible group of surrogates in 1980. Recruited by Morgan Mason (Hollywood---Sinatra, Martin, Davis, Jr. et al) and Jerry Naylor (Nashville---damn near all C/W stars). We had Ken Curtis cruising down main streets with mule in tow. They all got the campaign good will and votes---and created crowds where none had been created before. Obama has a lot of celebrities working for him. McCain has Palin. For some reason this year Republicans have forgotten what works. Maybe they'll remember it by the next election. Jim PS: Remember that the longest playing ad on TV was the ex-baseball celebrities for Miller Lite Beer. You remember, "tastes great--less filling". At the risk of duplication, I simply cannot understand why the GOP doesn't use celebrities. There are many conservative celebrities--they are there, but you have to ask them.
