This article by General Wesley K. Clark makes a bushel basket full of sense. As a four year veteran who served during the time of Viet Nam, I can certainly understand that. Frankly, I support universal military training---all military and no exemptions. Sometimes I just want to hit the all knowing asshole sitting beside me telling me what's wrong with the military and the cowardly bastard hasn't served a day.
