For More Mayors, School Takeovers Are a No-Brainer - WSJ.com

Putting Mayors in charge of running the public schools is a good idea in a lot of places. Someone will be held accountable for school performance. If the Mayor is tough, chances are the school will be better. I know that here in Las Vegas our Mayor, Oscar Goodman, would be much better at running the public schools than the elected school board of misfits who do so now. Bottom line--the schools will be no better than the Mayor. Jim
