Op-Ed Columnist - Taking a Depression Seriously - NYTimes.com
This is an interesting article by David Brooks who used to be a conservative but now because he earns his bread and butter from the New York Times is all over the philosophical spectrum. The GOP may have some good ideas but if so they are not articulated in a way that is convincing. The GOP leadership has tired brains. Some sharp members have emerged but unfortunately they have all the rhetorical skills of a CPA delivering a speech about flush toilets. Republicans don't understand that the ability to communicate in a way that sways people is vital to getting their message across. If you don't understand what I mean remember those joint press conferences featuring George W. Bush and Tony Blair. They made me embarrassed for my country. The GOP needs to find spokespersons who can explain, argue and make points using personality and humor. (clue--don't be afraid to use your female members). There doesn't seem to be much personality and humor in the ranks of the GOP elected members in Congress--some need to be found. (clue--think Reagan and Gingrich--there must be some back bencher who can talk and smile at the same time). Jim
