Brokaw knows at first hand how tough times were when he was growing up in a small town in South Dakota. I also grew up in small towns in South Dakota. Tom understands "community" because he, like I, remember that it was community efforts that kept us all together. That spirit exists in the small towns that still dot the prairie.
