Tim Walberg :: Townhall.com :: Rush, Sean: We Need Your Help to Bring Down Gas Prices

Please read this article about the plight of the GOP in Congress. It's sad. Let's get out of the inside of the beltway for a minute. Last night I went to the Clark County (Las Vegas) library to a speech and book signing by Kinky Friedman. Kinky was great--don't miss him if you ever get a chance to see him. The overflowing audience was old--median age abnout 50. I'd guess the audience was split, 60-65% Democrat, 30-35% Republican. Here is what was clear. Both Bush and the Congress were viewed as being worse than fourth stage clap. Nobody really gave a damn about Iraq, but the majority thought we should get out because Bush is an idiot and shouldn't have gone there in the first place. Everybody was pissed about gas prices. Everyone was pissed at the Congress for no action. The only chance the GOP has of beating some Democrats is on gas prices. Here's my plan. Have Bush declare a special session of Congress--don't let the idiots go home for the elections. Have two or three votes a day on drilling. Most Republicans will vote yes--most Democrats will vote now. Make it the only issue in the campaign. It's a slim chance, but it's a chance. By the way, McCain would need to pledge to stay in Congress till the drilling bill passed--and he would have to change his mind and be for drilling in Anwar. This is most likely a fairy tale, but sometimes fairy tales come true. Jim
